Cavalcada de Reis
From 05/01/2013 To 05/01/2013
In Barcelona the Cavalcada dels Reis (Kings Parade) is one of the most important festive events, and it is certainly the most special night of the year for kids.
The Cavalcada dels Reis begins with the entry of the three Kings (Melchor, Gaspar and Balthazar) by boat. In some parts of Spain they drop in by helicopter!. This takes place on January the 5th, at the port of Barcelona. The kings then parade through the streets with their retinue of acrobats, circus clowns and child elves.
Their route starts at the lower entrance of the Ciutadella, running up Marquès De l’Argentera Street and Via Laietana Avenue.
On the night of the 5th, children go to sleep early after leaving foods for the King's camels to eat. The following morning they either find presents if they have behaved or edible sugar coal if they have been bad. The following day, the 6th of January, is a public holiday all throughout Spain.
