The Diada de Sant Jordi 2013
From 23/04/2013 To 23/04/2013 Venue: Barcelona
Known in other parts as Saint Georges Day, the 23rd of April 23rd is the Diada de Sant Jordi in Barcelona. The Catalans venerate the same dragon slaying Saint as the English. For this reason you sometimes see a white flag with a red cross here in Barcelona. Just take a closer look at the FC Barcelona badge.
This is a romantic occasion with some similarities to St. Valentines Day. Traditionally men give women roses and women give men a book. It is a highly popular tradition, but unusually Saint Jordi's Day is not a public holiday. All shops are open and transport functions as normal.
Saint Jordi happens in late spring here when the weather is fine, the city streets are filled with thousands of people enjoying the atmosphere and buying from the book and roses stands that crop up across the city.
