Christmas Shopping Barcelona 2013
From 15/11/2013 To 06/01/2014
What could be better in the run up to Christmas than a winter break to combine some midwinter sunshine with some seasonal shopping?
Compared to most Northern European cities the shops are less crowded as gift giving at Christmas is lower key here. So shopping here is a less stressful affair. Tapas bars and Catalan restaurants also offer some welcome refreshment.
It is no surprise that Barcelona has excellent shops. The two main areas where these are congregated are Passeig de Gracia and El Portal del Angel. Between these two streets is Plaça Catalunya and El Corte Ingles (Spain’s largest department store) where you can find anything from jewellery to clothing to home furnishings to consumer electronics.
Barcelona also has two excellent indoor malls – Las Arenas on Plaça Espanya, and L’Illa on Diagonal. These are both fairly upmarket.
During December you will also find various traditional Christmas markets in Barcelona. In the old town, Santa Llúcia and Sant Eloi are two fine Christmas markets where you can find some original and unique gift ideas.
For more gift ideas, Barcelona has many one-off small shops where you can buy lesser know local made products such as clothes, shoes, bags and jewellery. Barcelona is known for its creativity for good reason.
Last but by no means least, Spanish food makes a great seasonal gift. You can visit one of Barcelona’s spectacular food markets such as the Boqueria on Las Ramblas to pick up some Spanish delicacies at bargain prices: try some nice Spanish ham or cheese (these can be vacupacked), wine or Christmas turron.
